Hello! My name is Darby, and I am a fifth-year senior double majoring in Kinesiology as well as Physiology & Neurobiology. I plan on attending medical school next year and I am currently in the heart of the application process. I knew I wanted to pursue a career in medicine after getting experience through shadowing a variety of physicians and volunteering with the Pregnancy Aid Center down the road. Although I have a strong interest in orthopedics, I am still figuring out what field I want to study because there is so much of medicine that I have yet to experience! I am also a member of the women’s soccer team on campus and an employee for the RecWell department at Eppley Recreation Center. For fun, I love being with my friends in any and every outdoor setting, so beach days are the best!I am incredibly excited to work on the student board. HPAO has been so beneficial throughout my journey as a pre-health student and I cannot wait to give back to the next generation of students!

Hi everyone! My name is Shavin, and I’m a senior majoring in Physiology & Neurobiology, planning on pursuing a career in medicine as a physician. When I entered UMD, I had no idea which classes to take or what to major in! I began my undergraduate career in the FIRE program, which introduces first-year students to research. Through the program, I was able to gain first-hand experience with research and learn from mentors with similar passions. Due to my positive experiences with the program, I become a peer-mentor for the FIRE program, and began a research project through the Departmental Honors Program, studying transcriptional regulators. Aside from my on-campus activities, some of my favorite experiences have been meeting new people and helping my community as a volunteer EMT in Clarksville, Maryland, and a volunteer at a homeless shelter in Columbia, Maryland. In my free time, I enjoy running, weightlifting, and playing board games with friends. If you have any questions, whether it’s about classes, internships, life, or anything in between, please feel free to reach out to me. I hope to see you this fall!
