How will the HPAO use the Blackboard Course?

Blackboard will be used to help students monitor the receipt by HPAO of elements of their Pre-Health Packet.  It will also be used to collect required elements of the Student Information Inventory for easy and environmentally friendly distribution of these items to the members of the Pre-Med Committee.

How do I sign up for Blackboard?

1. If the HPAO has received any of the following before you submit your pre-health packet you will be added to Blackboard:

• Letter of Recommendation
• Official Transcripts from any College or University you have attended
• Student Conduct Certification  

2. Send an e-mail to the HPAO office preprof@deans.umd.edu

• subject: Blackboard
• Include your full name and UID. (Note: please allow a few days for processing.)

3. If you don’t have a UID still send an e-mail request to the office preprof@deans.umd.edu:

• subject: Blackboard
• Include your full name and UID. note: You will be assigned a Directory ID and password by OIT.

What will I be able to keep track of with Blackboard?

You will be able to see when HPAO receives the following:

• Individual Letters of Recommendation
• Student Conduct Certification
• Transcript (s)
• Student Information Inventory

What do I submit to Blackboard?

You must submit the following items to Blackboard AND in paper form to complete your Pre-Health Packet:

1. Resume (a template has been provided as a guideline, you may use your own resume)

   All resumes must include the following categories IF applicable:

   • Employment
   • Clinical Experience
   • Community Service/ Non-Medical Volunteer
   • Research
   • Awards/Scholarships
   • Leadership
   • Special Skills/Other
2. Self-Reflection Questions
3. Personal Statement

Please submit these three documents as one document in the order listed above, and name your document as follows:

• LastName_FirstName_Middleinitial.doc
• i.e. If your name is John Michael Doe your file name would be: DoeJohnM.doc

Note: We have on average 350 applicants submitting pre-health packets.If you name your document incorrectly it may result in delaying your application or making your application incomplete.
